WEAPON POLICY

Since the Great Lakes Comic Convention takes place at a community college in the State of Michigan, we are bound by not only State law concerning weapons at school, but also the College's policy. This policy applies to vendors, as well as attendees.

Similarly, the Great Lakes Comic Expos take place at local community venues where each location (Trinity Lutheran Church/School of Clinton Township, Michigan and the United Foods and Commercial Workers' Hall in Madison Heights, Michigan) has a specific "no weapons" policy for any event hosted at their location. We must follow this policy for our event.

While Cosplayers are always welcome at any of our events, it is typically our February Comic Convention where a greater majority of costumed players attend. At times, some character costumes possess something that can be defined as a weapon.

Therefore, we are posting the weapons policy of Macomb Community College below, so that attendees understand what the expectations and rules are concerning weapons, or anything that might be deemed a "weapon".
If you have any questions about this, please Contact Us.

Also, here's a well-written article about how the issue of costumed players and weapons is being addressed at comic-cons at the national level.
The Great Lakes Comic Convention will follow the philosophy described in this article:

From MCC's College Rules and Regulations Page
concerning weapons:
